Congratulations on your pregnancy! The Rurals and Royston team Midwives are delighted to be providing you with your maternity care in the community in and around Bishops Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Buntingford, Royston and surrounding Hertfordshire villages.

The following pages have been written by the qualified Midwives working in your locality to provide brief information and advice relevant for our caseload of women.  If you have any concerns that are not addressed here, or in the case of emergency (bleeding, waters break, reduced movement, labour etc) contact the labour ward of the hospital where you are booked immediately, where a Midwife is on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to give you qualified support and advice. Alternatively, call 111 for out of hours GP services, or 999 in the case of a medical emergency.

The first step to planning your care is to refer and book you for maternity care. This first appointment is usually done at around 6-8 weeks of pregnancy. In order to arrange this, we need to know where you’d like to give birth. This is where you will have any scans, blood tests and consultant appointments. Wherever you decide to book, all routine maternity care, including homebirths, will be provided by your community Midwives. Have a look at the Where to have Your Baby and How to Book page and then follow the instructions on how to notify us of your choice.
